Mellby Gård has chosen to renew its sponsorship with shot putter Wictor Petersson, a collaboration that began in 2019. The continued support enables Wictor to fully pursue his athletic career, with the goal of winning an international championship medal and earning a spot at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
Wictor Petersson originally comes from Häglinge, outside Hässleholm. He began his career with Hässleholms AIS but now represents Malmö AI and the Swedish national athletics team. Over the past few years, he has achieved great success at the national level, with several Swedish championship titles and victories in Finnkampen.
"I still remember our first meeting and the warmth and support I met. It's thanks to Mellby Gård that I've been able to pursue short put full-time" says Wictor Petersson.
However, this year's Olympic dream did not go as planned, as he narrowly missed a spot at the Paris Games due to technicalities.
"It was, of course, a great disappointment not to participate, but it has also given me an enormous drive for revenge! I'm more motivated than ever to show what I can do and to reach the goals I've set”, says Wictor Petersson.
Following an injury in 2022, which required rest and recovery, Wictor Petersson has come back stronger and with an even clearer plan. With ten training sessions per week at Atleticum in Malmö, he is now ready for upcoming challenges. The next few years are packed with major championships. Already in 2025, the big highlights are the European Championships in the Netherlands, followed by the World Championships in Tokyo.
"The biggest goal right now is to win an international medal. There are a lot of competitions and championships in the coming years leading up to the Olympics, so it's just about continuing to perform at every event," says Wictor Petersson.
With his ambitions and the continued support from Mellby Gård, Wictor Petersson looks forward to establishing himself as one of the world's best in shot put. The renewed partnership extends through the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
"We are very happy and proud of our collaboration with Wictor and impressed with his progress so far. Therefore, it feels natural to support him towards another Olympics. We are really looking forward to seeing what he can achieve in the coming years and wish Wictor the best of luck," says Johan Andersson, CEO of Mellby Gård.
