When a new generation takes over a family-owned company, the myth of "inherit and ruin" still lingers. However, Johan Andersson, CEO at Mellby Gård, is living evidence that this is precisely a myth. During his ten years as CEO, Mellby Gård has doubled the number of holdings and the Group’s turnover. - It was very flattering to be asked to take over the role as CEO of Mellby Gård. I thought it would be an exciting challenge, so I accepted it and I'm very happy that I did, says Johan Andersson.
Strong performance in a volatile market! Excalibur Asset Management is one of Sweden's and the Nordics' oldest fixed income hedge funds and has won the price for ”Best Nordic Fixed-Income Hedge Fund 2022”. The fund has a continued influx of customers and a rolling twelve-month return of seven percent, despite a volatile market. - Winning this award shows we’re able to deliver in various market conditions and that it’s not a coincidence. This kind of attention is extremely important for us as an independent fund because we operate in a market dominated by banks, says Thomas Pohjanen, CEO of Excalibur Asset Management.
Reducing risk is the best way to face a changing market. Sven Knutsson, Deputy CEO of Mellby Gård, gives an insight into Oscar Jacobson, Klarahill AB, Verahill AB and Söderberg & Haak Maskin AB. With a difficult global geopolitical situation, the companies are looking for different ways to reduce operational risks by reviewing their production and product range, and meeting customers under new conditions and in new markets. - When we entered the year, we were quite pessimistic, actually. I thought consumers would be more mindful in their spendings than they were, so we've had a good year. Oscar Jacobson has grown 15-17 percent compared to 2022 and we see good growth through acquisitions for Klarahill.
Stronger sales than expected! Kappahl stands for sustainable and affordable fashion that goes beyond the latest trends. Elisabeth Peregi, CEO of Kappahl, talks about a 2023 affected by the recession. But it was also a year that surprised them positively in many ways. - We were quite concerned and worried about how 2023 would unfold, based on our customers' purchasing power. But it turns out that we were able to meet our customers in a good way. We have developed our range, and our value for money stands strong in tough times.
Long-term projects in focus during turbulent times. Thomas Gustafsson, Deputy CEO of Mellby Gård describes a 2023 with good result for both Kappahl and Duni Group, despite the year being characterized by high inflation. This is thanks to loyal consumers who continued to spend money, which contributed to a stable development for the companies during the year. - We have had quite good demand in both companies. Duni has had a fine development and we see that the social need in society is perhaps stronger than we had thought, which means that consumers keep going to restaurants to a fairly high degree. You don't buy the most expensive thing on the menu, but you're still there socializing.
Roxtec Group breaks its own record! With its modular cable sealing solutions, Roxtec helps its customers ensure secure cable transits in a multitude of applications, regardless of diameter. - Once 2023 started, it turned out to be a better year than we had thought. We will reach the goal with what we think is a reasonable Roxtec growth. We have grown by 25% compared to 2022. I am happy to say that we have reached 3 billion a year in turnover and we have had that as a goal for some time, says Magnus Holmberg, CEO at Roxtec.
Strong year for our industrial companies, despite rapid geopolitical changes. Mikael Helmerson, Deputy CEO at Mellby Gård talks about the past year for the industrial companies Roxtec Group and Feralco AB. Affected by major global challenges, the industrial companies within the group managed to perform very well in 2023. The companies have shown both strong growth and record high profitability. - All forms of geopolitical tension affect free trade. One of Mellby Gård's tasks, in addition to building leading companies, is to contribute to free trade between countries and people, which we believe is one of the very best ways to reduce the risks of conflict.

Listen to the interview with Duni Group! Erik Lindroth, Sustainability Director at Duni Group, tells us about the company's ongoing efforts to be at the forefront and offer circular solutions. He highlights that single-use items and reusable solutions should be seen as complementary towards each other, since neither one is automatically more sustainable than the other. - We want to buy food and drinks on the go. We bring a cup of coffee for the train ride and buy a salad for lunch. These are behaviours that we as humans have created. The challenge and opportunity for the industry is to make sure that one can live in today's society, but in a sustainable way, says Erik Lindroth. Follow us on LinkedIn and to read more about Duni Group in our upcoming Annual Magazine!
Listen to the interview with Oscar Jacobson! At the store Sustain by Oscar Jacobson, the customer is offered sustainable garments that have had a previous owner. The customers can hand in their old garments from Oscar Jacobson and receive a percentage of the sale when the garment is sold. This gives every piece of garment a longer life and the customer the opportunity to shop more sustainably. - We work with products that are intended to live long. Both from a quality aspect as well as from a fashion perspective. Approximately 85 percent of our negative environmental footprint comes from the production process. So, if we can make garments that live longer, then we have come a long way, says Richard Woodbridge, CEO at Oscar Jacobson. Do you want to know more about Sustain by Oscar Jacobson?
